This is a list of puns in The Lion King.

  • Scar: "Well, as far as brains go, I got the lion's share. But when it comes to brute strength, I'm afraid I'm at the shallow end of the gene pool."
Based on "the lion's share", this is said by a lion.
  • Zazu: "Cheetahs never prosper."
This is one of Zazu's news. Based on "Cheaters never prosper."
  • Zazu: "I'm the king's majordodo."
Based on "majordomo" as well as the extinct bird dodo. Zazu is a hornbill (another kind of bird), and works as the majordomo for king Mufasa at this point.
  • Banzai: "We can have whatever's lion around!"
Based on "whatever's lying around", said when Banzai intends to eat the lion cubs Simba and Nala.
  • Shenzi: "Make mine a cub sandwich, what you think?"
Based on the cub (a type of sandwich) as well as the fact that Simba and Nala are lion cubs at this point. Said at the same scene as the previous quote.
  • Banzai: "I said Mufa ... uh ... I said 'Qué pasa?'"
Banzai says the Spanish phrase 'Qué pasa?' ('What's the matter?') because it is similar to 'Mufasa'. This is an attempt to change the subject, because the king Scar heard Banzai complaining that his reign is worse than the previous king, Mufasa, whose name is forbidden to be mentioned in Scar's presence.
